What is Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment (a type of inpatient rehab) provides a structured, live-in program where you can focus on your recovery. You’ll receive 24/7 support, comprehensive therapies, community support, psychoeducation, medications, and more—all within a safe, sober, and non-hospital setting.

At Freedom Recovery Centers (FRC), our team is with you every step of the way. From your initial detox to aftercare, we’re here to support your journey and goals. While reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, we make it easier by helping verify your insurance for you first. This removes financial stress and allows you to focus on what’s truly important: getting sober and rediscovering purpose and joy in your life.

What’s the Difference Between Residential vs Inpatient Rehab?

Residential treatment is often used interchangeably with inpatient rehab. Inpatient rehab actually serves as an “umbrella” term, covering various sub-categories. Inpatient rehab often refers to care provided within a hospital setting. However, residential rehab strives to offer more of a home-like atmosphere as opposed to a clinical or hospital environment.

Both offer 24/7 support and care, but residential treatment prioritizes both evidence-based medical treatments alongside other comprehensive and holistic therapies and community support.

Residential treatment stays also tend to be longer than inpatient rehab. Inpatient hospital rehab may last only a few days or weeks. In contrast, residential treatment programs last 30 days or longer, depending on the severity of one’s addiction.

What Does Residential Treatment Involve?

At FRC, every treatment plan is unique to each individual and their specific situation. However, generally, our treatments follow the same three stages:

Detoxification

Once you enter our facility, your detox begins. This is a 24/7 medically supervised detox where the body rids itself of the abused substances. Our team is there to support you every step of the way, providing emotional support and helping ease withdrawal symptoms.

Medically-assisted treatments (MAT) may be used, depending on your type of addiction. These can help alleviate severe withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings.

Evidence-Based & Holistic Therapies

Your residential treatment will include a combination of therapies, depending on your addiction and unique situation. At FRC, we are proud to offer various evidence-based and holistic treatments, including:

Relapse Prevention & Aftercare

Your recovery doesn’t end when you leave our center. Our team is committed to helping you ease back into your life with ample support and resources. We’ll provide you with strategies to prevent relapse, such as healthy coping skills and the ability to identify your triggers. FAQs

What is the residential treatment approach?

The residential treatment approach involves staying in a home-like facility or center to support your recovery through evidence-based, holistic therapies and treatments. This allows you to step back from your day-to-day life and focus solely on your recovery.

How long is residential treatment?

Residential treatment can range in duration depending on your needs. It may include a 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, or longer stay.

What happens after rehabilitation?

After rehabilitation, our team is here to support your transition back into daily life. This may involve transitioning into an out-patient program or referred counselors and support groups—or both. Either way, you won’t be left on your own. You’ll be provided with the support you need to continue your journey and sustain sobriety.

What if I relapse afterward?

Relapses can feel discouraging, but they happen. It’s a very common part of the recovery journey. But what you do afterward is what matters the most. As soon as you’ve recognized that you’ve relapsed, reach out for support. Getting help early can ensure you identify why it happened and ensure it doesn’t happen again.
